Foliage
Dull dark green, ovate to oval leaves up to (smaller than normal for the species) with a neatly serrated margin and brownish-orange hairs (especially prominent on the underside). The whole leaf is slightly recurved along the main vein. The system of veining (venation) is depressed, giving a 'pleated' appearance. The leaves hang stiffly in an almost vertical position. Turning reddish-purple to greenish-yellow in autumn while retaining a lighter greenish-white underside.
