Large, dark, glossy green with three to five lobes. Turning yellowish-brown in autumn.
Bark

Olive-brown. Irregularly flaking off in plates to reveal beige to grey under bark which creates an attractive mottled appearance. Ornamental, a feature of this tree.
Ornamental Fruit

Pendulous, bristly seed balls to 25 mm wide are produced in groups of two to three.
Tree Habit

Broadly rounded. Pyramidal when young. Eventually becoming a large tree.
Flowers

Inconspicuous in late spring. Male and female flowers are separate on the same plant (monoecious).
