Foliage
Juvenile leaves are a dull bluish-green, and slightly pendulous. Attractive waxy adult leaves are thick, glossy green, broad-lannceolate and up to 18 cm long. Have distinctive leaf venation where the side veins run almost parallel to the midrib.

Bark
The attractive, ornamental bark is smooth and colourful, streaked with grey, brown or golden-tan over a creamy under colour. Often marked by 'scribbles' caused by insect larvae.

Ornamental Fruit
Cup-shaped with valves level with the rim. Seed capsules persisit on trees sometimes until next flowering season.

Often strongly branched from near the ground and can have several trunks. Attractive appearance. Requires good formative pruning to produce a central leader habit suitable for streetscapes. Usually has a sparse crown
