A purple leafed-form of the well-known Smokebush. Generally work best when used in groups or as part of a large shrub border as individual plants can be quite untidy. Ideal as a colour contrast in shrub borders or highly effective when planted en masse.

    Leaves are almost oval in shape and up to about 10cm in length. Generally a blue-green colour that turns to an impressive yellow-orange in autumn.

  • Bark

    New growth is generally purplish brown with many small lenticels. Emits a strong odor when crushed.

  • Ornamental Fruit

    Fruit is an insignificant small drupe.

  • Flowers

    Individually the flowers are quite insignificant, but the infloresence as a whole gives the impression of a large smokey haze above the plant, which gives rise to the plants common name of smoke bush.
