Celebrating 40 Years
They say 40 is over the hill – but Fleming’s Nurseries Qld has only just started!! We are delighted to celebrate 40 years in operation.
Now part of the Fleming’s Group of Companies, our Sunshine Coast business, formerly known as Birdwood Nursery, has been going strong for 40 years! Handed from one strong family to another in 2015, the business has gone from strength to strength.
Already an award-winning nursery and leader in its field, Fleming’s have worked tirelessly to develop it to become an even greater business. Fleming’s have established a thriving, world-class tissue culture facility, developed extensive mother stock orchards, re-designed many of the growing locations, re-vamped the despatch operation and turned a 95% transient workforce into a 95% permanent and dedicated team.
Originally founded as a small specialist fruit nursery by Peter and Sandra Young, Birdwood Nursery has found a new breath of life under the guidance of professional nurseryman Wes Fleming and his daughter Jessica Fleming.
Focussing new and improved propagation methods of fruit trees and biosecurity in the nursery has been instrumental in the recent success of the business as it enters its 41st year.
“Peter and Sandra created an amazing business and we could certainly see the future potential of the operation. It’s been a very exciting few years taking their exceptional foundation and seeing it develop into what we have today,” said Wes.
Wes hasn’t rested on his laurels and has also set aside previously unused land at the nursery for growing some advanced trees. He has also designed and implemented a new rolling track system to more efficiently move plants and further reinforce strict biosecurity rules and regulations throughout the nursery.
“The whole process of buying and developing Birdwood to become Fleming’s Nurseries Qld, has been exciting and invigorating for me and the family,” Wes said.
Wes and Jess have big plans for the nursery and look forward to introducing new and exciting things in the future.
