New growth has a bronzy-purple colouring, which is retained around the margins of the otherwise green leaves throughout spring and summer. Autumn colour is a stunning mixture of purples, reds, oranges and yellows. Leaves are smaller and narrower than typical of the species.

Small brown capsules are occassionally produced.
Flowers

Small flowers without petals, make a feature of the red stamens.
