I'm a Brisbane born local, whose interest in plants and the outdoor environment stems all the way back to childhood.
I recently completed my Bachelor of Built Environment at the Queensland University of Technology. Currently I'm finishing my Graduate Diploma of Landscape Architecture, also at Q.U.T., part time while working full time at Gamble McKinnon Green, a landscape architecture firm in West End, Brisbane.
I have been working at Gamble McKinnon Green for almost 2 years, assisting on a range of projects from commercial to residential.
At the moment my future direction is a bit undecided. Once I finish university I am unsure whether to continue my development as a Landscape Architect working on larger scale projects, or follow my other interest in small scale design projects such as private residences. One thing is certain however; once I finish university next year I will be looking to do some work while travelling overseas.
Design Explanation
- Challenge perceptions
- – challenging the way viewers see spaces in the landscape
- Challenging interactions
- – while there is no physical interaction, this design is all about visual stimulation
- Challenge interpretations
- – how would this space be used? What is it for?
- – how would this space be used? What is it for?
- – different viewers will come to different conclusions. Is it a:
-
- deck?
- table setting?
- landscape art?
- performing area/stage?
- display area?
- Challenge vegetation
- - the timber boxes appear to be floating on the vegetation
- – the use of exciting new species
- – mass plantings and a basic plant palette simplifies the design, allowing the viewers eye to move freely around the landscape
“this landscape design and the space itself explores the notion of challenging the norm”
“it challenges the way people view and interact with the designed space, encouraging the viewer to create new and abstract interpretations”
“the design also challenges how spaces are constructed and the materials combine, encouraging new and different opportunities in the landscape”
