Swinburne TAFE, Wantirna, Melbourne

I'm a 22 year old student studying Landscape design, as well as being a landscape gardener.

I began my apprenticeship after being introduced to landscape gardening by my older brother. After falling out of the construction side after 4 years, and still wanting involvement in the horticultural industry.

Having an eye for detail and a creative flare, landscape design was an obvious choice; so I immediately enrolled to study the subject.

Moving down to the Mornington Peninsula with my wife Melanie, to start a life together, I picked up work with a landscape construction company and a small landscape design company to gain more experience in both fields.

Today landscape design is very much an important role in the development of any garden. Garden design has its own singularity, that I hope to provide for every client; their own unique garden that I have designed.

My ambitions are to succeed and to build a respectable and renowned name for myself in garden design. After accomplishing these goals and gaining enough experience and ideas, I wish to publish a book on my thoughts and designs.

Design Explanation

This design is an outdoor area that would be well suited to a coastal/pool area. Being from the beach front myself, I was inspired by it’s surroundings and native plant life. Using a modern architectural look in my structures and choosing colours that represented a beachy look.
‘Aqua’ and ‘Snow Gum’ colours used in tiles and timber decking give the garden a washed/weathered look, at the same time using aqua tiles in the shower wall to act as a feature itself and to break up the timber stain.
This decked area was designed for someone to lounge around a pool using the shade structure to give cover from the sun and using the shower to rinse off after a dip in the pool.
Surrounded by native trees and plants, gives the area an Australian/coastal feel while at the same time attracting birds to the gardens foliage. This affordable garden would transform an average pool into a modern, stylish out door living space.

Angled fencing provides privacy against neighbours when positioned at different view points, and is still able to let in foliage from nearby trees and shrubs. An ideal contemporary look solution to use when trying to screen an area.
All timber materials used in the design were treated pine products, that would suit any environment including the harsh coastal conditions.
