Lagerstroemia indica x L. fauriei 'Sioux'

Family: Lythraceae.
Landscape value: A showy, narrow-growing small tree with masses of intense pink flowers in summer, highly ornamental bark and very good autumn colour. Lagerstroemia ‘Sioux’ is an adaptable and disease resistant plant suitable for a range of situations.
Height: 4 metre(s)
Width: 3 metre(s)
Growth rate: Slow to moderate.
Habit: Vase-shaped, upright branching with a rounded canopy.
Foliage: Dark green, thick to 8 cm long. Good, strong autumn colour of coppery-brown to bright red.
Flowers: Medium to hot pink flowers are borne in large panicles on the ends of current season’s growth.
Bark: Dark olive green on mature trees, exfoliating (after about three years) revealing a smooth, pinkish-caramel underbark. Young trees light brown.
Tolerances: Adaptable to a range of conditions, heat and some dryness but requires adequate moisture during establishment. Bred for resistance to powdery mildew.
Comments: Best in moist, well drained, slightly acidic soils in a position receiving full sun. Transplants easily provided adequate moisture levels are maintained. Bare rooted Indian Summer® Lagerstroemia should be pruned back by 30% when planted – this will help promote spring growth by allowing the plant to first establish a strong root system.
