Lagerstroemia indica x L. fauriei 'Natchez'

Family: Lythraceae.
Landscape value: A very popular cultivar with excellent white flowers and highly attractive exfoliating bark. The extremities of the branches become pendulous giving a slightly weeping effect which is made more dramatic with the production of large white inflorescences. Lagerstroemia ‘Natchez’ is an adaptable tree suitable for a wide range of situations.
Height: 8 metre(s)
Width: 6 metre(s)
Growth rate: Moderate.
Habit: Vase-shaped to rounded-spreading. Multi-stemmed with a flattish canopy. Eventually becomes a large tree.
Foliage: Glossy mid-green leaves changing to reddish-bronze in autumn.
Flowers: White flowers in large terminal panicles from mid-summer through to early autumn.
Fruit: Insignificant capsules.
Bark: Exfoliating bark (after about three years) reveals a pinkish-brown underbark.
Tolerances: Adaptable to a range of conditions, heat and some dryness but requires adequate moisture during establishment. Bred for resistance to powdery mildew.
Comments: Best in moist, well drained, slightly acidic soils in a position receiving full sun. Transplants easily provided adequate moisture levels are maintained. Bare rooted Indian Summer® Lagerstroemia should be pruned back by 30% when planted – this will help promote spring growth by allowing the plant to first establish a strong root system.
