Fleming’s gear up for Chelsea 2010 with Scott Wynd

Fleming’s Nurseries has joined forces with landscape designer Scott Wynd of Total Landscape and Constructions (TLC), to present a show-stopping Australian Garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show in London.

A veteran of the Chelsea experience with Fleming’s, Scott’s landscape company TLC, was selected for the build of Jack Merlo’s design in 2005 which was awarded our first auspicious gold medal at the prestigious show.

He has since returned as our faithful project manager and will now present his own design fit for a king – or Queen, as the case may be.

Representing the ultimate Australian garden design incorporating a pool with bar area, an entertaining and gallery space all enclosed in what Scott describes as a ‘jungle-like’ planting scheme.

Comprising many tropical-style plants, this garden is set to wow the Brit’s and excite the landscape industry as a whole.

This year the construction crew is headed up by Scott Tymkin of Ian Barker and Associates who built our last gold medal garden in 2008. He will head a team of landscapers from various Melbourne-based landscape companies further sharing the experience throughout the industry.

The Chelsea Flower Show is open from 25-29 May with the Australian Team commencing the build during the first week of May.

Fleming's and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation

In early 2007 Fleming's Nurseries partnered with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation to supply a range of fruit trees to participating Victorian primary schools.

The innovative Kitchen Garden Program was established in 2001 by renowned chef and food writer, Stephanie Alexander and currently engages around 3,000 young children in Grades 3–6 in growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing fresh food at primary school.

The Program seeks to provide children with positive, hands-on experiences and the essential life skills of learning how to plant, nurture and then cook fresh, delicious food.

By donating our quality fruit trees so that schools can establish orchards, Fleming's hopes to broaden the learning experiences of the children to include the skills and joy of growing and cooking with beautiful fresh fruit straight from the tree.

Our support reflects our shared belief that if a child is encouraged to experience the broadest range of flavours and textures and is invited to share the family table, they will be a food-lover for life.

And if that child is shown how to grow and care for fresh food, how to prepare it and cook it, he or she will become an informed consumer, committed to sound sustainable growing practices and will have developed valuable life-enhancing skills.

We also believe that a passion for plants and the garden is something learned early in our lives.

We are delighted to support such a positive initiative. Visit the Foundation at www.kitchengardenfoundation.org.au
