REPEAT FLOWERING FOR AN ENDLESS SUMMER
There is currently much fervour and excitement in the nursery industry as word filters through regarding the long awaited introduction of the new REPEAT FLOWERING HYDRANGEA - Hydrangea
macrophylla 'Bailmer', Trade Name - Endless Summer™.
What's so different about this Hydrangea? This is a REPEAT BLOOMING macrophylla hydrangea, which means it blooms on both old and new wood, so the flowering period is longer than other types of macrophylla hydrangea. Deadheading spent flowers also encourages new blooms.
Hydrangeas have generally been viewed as an old fashioned plant, but are gaining new interest and now even more so with the introduction of Endless Summer™. As a border shrub, along the fence or around the shady side of the house, Hydrangeas have stood the test of time where other plants have succumbed to fashion or climate - a testament to their remarkable toughness and resilience - even through the heat of Australian summers.
Endless Summer™ Hydrangeas bloom in mid- to late summer, when the flowering shrubs of late spring have long faded. They are aesthetically pleasing in the garden or patio as they display luscious, green growth and may also be used as cut or dried flowers. Endless Summer™ will flourish in a moist well-drained soil in a partly shaded spot in the garden or patio. Keen gardeners can enjoy manipulating the colour of
the flowers by adding aluminium sulphate to the soil, which may lower the
pH resulting in blue blooms. This is easier to achieve if the plants are
in pots.
Endless Summer is available from good garden centres and retailers now.
