AUSTRALIAN GARDEN - Chelsea Flower Show 2007
|
Fleming’s Nurseries returns to the world famous Chelsea Flower Show for the fourth time in 2007. The Fleming’s & Trailfinders Australian Garden is designed by Melbourne landscape designer Mark Browning.
Fleming’s Director, Wes Fleming can’t wait to return to Chelsea in 2007. “I love going to Chelsea and showcasing the extraordinary talent we have in Australia. "This garden is nothing like we have created before. It brings together my greatest passion - trees and the environment. “Trends in smaller courtyard gardens have meant people plant less trees. This garden shows you can still have a garden and use small growing trees very sensibly. “Because modern gardens are smaller, people tend to plant less trees. This garden shows you can use trees very sensibly and create an intimate space. “The garden has great design principles, strong architectural themes and is heavily planted. The English are going to love it.” The garden will be constructed by award winning Kiama Landscapes and Paving, also based in Melbourne. This is the fourth Australian garden Fleming’s has sponsored at Chelsea. Each year Fleming’s has been rewarded with a medal.
The Chelsea Flower Show runs between 22 – 26 May 2007, in the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.

The Australian Garden will be a haven where time slows down and simple pleasures can be enjoyed. Unlike last year’s Australian Garden, which focused on entertaining, this garden will evoke tranquillity, mystery and romance.
The main garden area will feature a raised platform of Victorian bluestone with built in seating and a table, creating an open secluded space, which will be surrounded by water. A large fish tank embedded in a feature wall will promote tranquillity and movement. A spectacular steel triangular pergola ties all the elements together, and will create curved shadows on the fractured granite pavers.
Trees are definitely a highlight. The garden will feature 39 trees over six metres including a grove of 19 Himalayan White Barked Birches and a grove of Purple Beech. Two Dracaena draco trees will make a bold impression with their spiky texture. Purple, burgundy and silver foliage will bring colour and life to the garden, as well as a mixture of textures and shapes.
