Float is the result of a partnership between:

Fleming's Nurseries

Fleming's Nurseries is Australia's leading grower, importer and wholesaler of deciduous fruiting and ornamental trees and shrubs. The company is the largest supplier to the orchard industry in Australia, with approximately half of its business devoted to growing and selling a wide variety of apple, pear and stone-fruit trees to commercial orchards. The other half of the business is focused on the growing and selling of fruit and ornamental trees to retail garden centres, landscapers, property developers and local government.

A family-owned business for four generations, Fleming's Nurseries has grown under the present management of Don Fleming to encompass a workforce of over 100 staff, 7 properties, 1000 hectares of nursery and plantings of 1.75 million bare-root trees each year.

Much of Fleming's Nurseries success can be attributed to its associations with overseas companies and its focus on introducing new and improved varieties to the Australian market. The company established Australia's first private quarantine screen house for fruiting cultivars and has imported over 2,300 new fruit and ornamental cultivars into Australia during the past 15 years.

It is largely this international approach to the nursery business that led to Fleming's participation in the Chelsea Flower Show. With the aim of showcasing the Australian horticulture, design and landscaping industry at an international level, Fleming's Nurseries was the driving force behind the first ever Australian show garden at the 2004 show. Having won Silver-Gilt with 'Australian Inspiration' that year, now they are back in 2005 to present the Fleming's Nurseries Float* garden, an adaptation of Jack Merlo's award-winning design from the 2004 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

Back home in Australia, Fleming's continues to support local landscape design talent. Each year, Australian and New Zealand students are invited to enter the Fleming's Student Design Competition. This competition allows students to explore new ideas, push design boundaries and gain valuable exposure within the industry. The four winning designs are displayed at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, and the winner receives a cash prize as well as a trip to the Chelsea Flower Show.
